Abstract

The accurate prediction of fracture paths under complex compression-shear loading conditions remains a formidable challenge in computational solid mechanics. Traditional numerical methods based on classical continuum mechanics often struggle with the discontinuities introduced by crack propagation, particularly when crack face contact and frictional sliding dominate the failure mechanism. This paper introduces a comprehensive investigation into compression-shear fracture paths utilizing a novel dual-configuration peridynamic kinematics constraint framework. By operating simultaneously in both the reference and current configurations, the proposed peridynamic model inherently captures the complex non-local interactions of material points while strictly enforcing kinematic admissibility during crack closure and shear sliding. The theoretical formulation eliminates the need for external contact algorithms by integrating repulsive interaction forces directly into the peridynamic state parameters. Extensive computational analyses are conducted on standard rock-like and cementitious specimens subjected to multiaxial compression. The results demonstrate that the dual-configuration constraints effectively prevent unphysical material interpenetration and accurately reproduce the transition from primary wing cracks to secondary shear faults. Detailed sensitivity analyses regarding horizon sizes and kinematics penalty parameters further validate the robustness of the approach. Ultimately, this research provides a robust, unified non-local framework for simulating arbitrary dynamic fracture, offering significant advancements for the predictive modeling of brittle materials under extreme confinement and shear loads.
